The Dewey Triumphal Arch stood quite briefly in Madison Square Park in New York City. The arch was constructed for a parade honoring Admiral George Dewey for a victory during the Philippine War. The arch was built two months before the parade using staff, a material that had previously been used for temporary buildings at multiple World's Fairs. Not long after the parade, the arch began to deteriorate, and the growing unpopularity of the Philippine War caused efforts to raise money to rebuild the arch to fail. In 1900, the arch was officially demolished.
This brief moment of New York City history has been captured with this vintage photograph of the Dewey Arch. We've digitally restored this image, and have fine art prints available on both paper and canvas. Our prints make for beautiful decor pieces, and we offer a range of sizes to fit any space!
