The Marshall House once stood at 480 King Street in Alexandria, Virginia. The historic inn was the site of the killing of Colonel Elmer E. Ellsworth in 1861, during the Union Army's takeover of Alexandria. This vintage photograph was taken around the time, sometime between 1860 and 1865. The inn stood for nearly another century before it was eventually demolished in the 1950s.
The team at Old Town Print Gallery has digitally restored this historic photograph. Working from a digital scan of the original glass negative, we've repaired damage and removed dust and dirt, returning the image to its original, pristine condition. Our print reproductions are made with archival, museum-quality paper and canvas. If you'd like to read a bit more about our prints and materials, just click here!
