Nassau Hall is the oldest building at Princeton University. It was built in 1756 to serve as the College of New Jersey. The building was ravaged by troops during the American Revolution, but Princeton's campus became a battleground. In 1783, Nassau Hall served as the nation's capitol, housed the Continental Congress from June to November, and was where news was received of the peace treaty with Great Britain. The interior of the building was destroyed twice by fires in the 1800s, and was redesigned each time. After its long and storied history, Nassau Hall today houses administrative offices. This particular image of the historic building was captured in 1903, well after its most historically significant events occurred.
