During the 1930s, Walker Evans spent a significant amount of time photographing workers and architecture in the Southeastern United States. Evans was photographing for the Resettlement Administration, which later came to be known as the Farm Security Administration. This particular image was taken by Evans in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, in 1936.
There is plenty of nostalgia to be had in this image of "George's Place", a roadside sandwich shop. In the image, we see numerous advertisements and signboards, all reminiscent of advertising styles of the era. On the right, we see an advertisement for Blue Bird Ice Cream, and on the left, we have a classic Coca-Cola ad.
Despite being 90 years old, our digital restoration has brought this image right into the present. We've corrected fading, repaired damage, and removed dust and dirt. Reproduction prints of this beautifully restored photograph can be purchased in a range of sizes! We offer fine art paper and canvas prints, both of which are archival and museum-quality.
