The March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom took place on August 28th, 1963. Many leaders of the movement for civil and economic rights of African Americans gave speeches, with the most notable speech being Martin Luther King Jr.'s iconic "I Have a Dream" speech. In this speech, King called for an end to legalized racism and segregation.
This vintage photograph, taken during the event, captures the numerous signs carried by marchers. The signs include demands of integrated schools, equal rights, jobs for all, and higher minimum wages.
