This vintage photograph of the USS Pensacola was captured in Alexandria, Virginia, in 1861. The Pensacola departed Alexandria in January of the following year for the Gulf of Mexico. Between the Pensacola's original launch in 1859 and its eventual burning and sinking in 1912, it was decommissioned and recommissioned many times.
The Old Town Print Gallery team has digitally restored this historic image, bringing a breath of fresh air to this moment in maritime history. We worked on a digital scan of the original glass negative to repair damage, remove dust and dirt, and correct fading. With this work complete, our print reproductions reflect the original condition of the image. Our prints are made with only the highest-quality materials. Both our paper and canvas are archival and museum-quality, rated to last over 100 years. Each print is made with care at our studio in Alexandria, Virginia.
