The March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom took place on August 28th, 1963. Many leaders of the movement for civil and economic rights of African Americans gave speeches, with the most notable speech being Martin Luther King Jr.'s iconic "I Have a Dream" speech. In this speech, King called for an end to legalized racism and segregation.
In this photograph, captured during the march, we see a DC street filled with marchers carrying signs. The signs sport various slogans, including "No US dough to help Jim Crow Grow" and "We March for Effective Civil Rights Laws Now!".
