Taken in 1904, this vintage photograph shows a section of Middle Street in Portland, Maine. Pedestrians, as well as horse-drawn carriages, can be seen moving about on the street. Middle Street got its name from its position between Congress and Fore Streets, and today runs for just under half a mile. Middle Street formerly originated at Portland's Market Square, known today as Monument Square.
