A shift in the workforce took place during World War II, as more and more women began to fill roles previously held by men. Many factories where women had previously worked to produce household goods shifted to producing items needed for the war. Additionally, women began taking jobs in the aviation industry, working as riveters, welders, and inspectors. Commonly referred to as "Rosie the Riveter", these women played an essential role in the war effort and helped to reshape outdated views about women's abilities. This vintage color photograph captures one such woman, working on an airplane motor at the North American Aviation, Inc. plant in California in 1942.

We have digitally restored this historically significant photograph; we have removed dust and dirt, repaired damage, and corrected fading/discoloration.
