The World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, also known as the Chicago World's Fair, drew visitors from far and wide to view and learn about artifacts and ideas from across the world. This vintage photograph, taken in 1892, pictures the Palace of Fine Art.
Unlike most of the buildings built specifically for the World's Fair, the Palace of Fine Arts was built with brick as a safety measure for the artwork being displayed. This unique building is also the only building of the infamous "White City" that still stands today. In 1933, the building opened its doors once again as The Griffen Museum of Science and Industry.
Much like the building itself needed to be restored before reopening, this image needed to be digitally restored before it could be reproduced. Having acquired its fair share of dust and damage over time, the image was no longer in pristine condition. Thanks to the efforts of our digital restoration team, this beautiful vintage image has been returned to its original condition. Our reproduction prints are made in our Alexandria studio using only the highest-quality materials.
Our prints are offered in a range of sizes from small to large, but we understand sometimes you just need something unique. If that's the case, please let us know! We're happy to create the perfect custom print for your space.
