3 Tips for Choosing Prints

Starting your search for the right vintage photography print for your space can be hard if you’re not sure exactly what you want. The market is extensive, and the options can seem endless. We’ve put together a few points to think about to help you get started in narrowing down your search and finding the perfect print.

Consider Existing Decor

Whichever room you plan to display the print in, consider what the decor that you already have in that room is like. Do you have a lot of bold colors and patterns, or more neutrals or muted tones? Either way, you might want to pick a print that matches your current aesthetic.

Print Matching Decor

Choose Between Color and Black & White

If you’re all about bright colors and bold statements, a full-color print would be right at home in your space. On the other hand, if most of your decor and furnishings are more neutral, a bright color print might seem out of place, and a black & white print might be a better option for you.

Of course, this is all just personal preference, but ultimately you’ll want to make sure the print you choose fits the space however you like it.

Think About Your Interests

If you’re not sure what subject matter you want in a print, a good starting point is to just think about your own interests. Photographs are taken of every subject under the sun, so odds are there is a photograph out there of whatever your particular interests are. This could be as broad as deciding you want a print of a photograph of nature in general, or more specific, such as deciding on your favorite National Park and looking for photographs of it.

Measure Your Wall Space

Once you find an image or images you like, your next decision will be what size you want to order. We offer all of our images in a range of sizes to fit any space you might have. Before you order, take a moment to measure the space where you plan to hang the print to make sure you order a size that fits.

Consider Framing Size

If you are ordering a canvas print, you don’t have to worry about framing, as canvas prints are ready to hang on the wall as is. Paper prints, however, will require framing before you hang them. Depending on what style of frame you choose, and how large the mat is if you choose to have a mat, the frame will add additional size to the print. So when you are choosing print size, just make sure you factor in that the final, framed size will be larger than the size of the print.
